One of the top reasons travelers choose Fiji for their vacation is to relax. The vibrant Fijian islands are filled with experiences that let vacationers truly break away and disconnect from the routines of everyday life. This is why more and more visitors from around the world identify with Fiji as the ideal tropical getaway to unwind.
It was a great adventure for me to come out to true paradise and see the best of the Fiji Islands. To experience “real Fiji” is to experience paradise. It is to lose oneself in the magic that is paradise. I envied these Fijians who could relive their dreams on a slice of paradise, day after day. They really get to keep their own piece of paradise.
I saw some Chinese restaurants serving traditional Chinese seafood dishes that I love. But whenever I traveled to a new place, I always tried to get a taste of the local flavor.
Therefore, I decided to pay a visit to a nice Fijian restaurant. The owner told me, “Our restaurant delivers on its philosophy of ‘using fresh, quality ingredients prepared in a simple yet delicious manner’ with a menu featuring locally-caught fish, fresh meat from our local farms, and fresh vegetables from our local plantations.” I reveled in his energy and passion as the owner talked about Fiji’s culinary future.
Each year, October 10th is a public holiday in Fiji. People joined in Fiji Day celebrations across the country. The main event takes place near Sigatoka. People would head out to the town’s riverbank for numerous activities as competing groups converge for the annual Bilibili Races. The bilibili means bamboo raft. The bilibili and kayak races on the Sigatoka River are popular events, so are land-based competitions like the tug of war, and the unique coconut bowling.
The wonderful country of Fiji and their people presented all the essential ingredients for a truly memorable vacation. During my stay on the Fiji Island, I wanted to get quality experiences that can enrich my time in Fijian paradise.
Fiji has been voted as one of the happiest countries with the friendliest people on Earth. I tried to carve out some time to get to know their locals to engage in real life connections. I wanted to find out for myself why Fiji is a spirit-lifting destination as I strike up conversations at the markets, villages, and towns. I felt that this would be a fantastic way to bring each other a positive interaction.
I learned so much from a wise old lady I met in Fiji. She said to me, “Your relationship with the community is the same as your relationship with the sun. If you hid from the sun for years and then chose to come out of your darkness, the sun would still be shining as if you had never left. You don’t need to apologize. You just pick your head up and look at the sun. You can’t make the sun stop shining on you.”
